In the last three years, two kitchen appliances created and distributed by relative newcomer, Double Insight, have been recalled due to defects. Double Insight was founded in 2009 and made profitable by the popularity of the Instant Pot, a multipurpose cooker with the ability to function as a pressure cooker, rice cooker, and slow cooker, among other uses.
Gem 65 8-in-1 Multi-cooker
In March of this year, Double Insight announced a recall on the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multi-cooker which is sold exclusively at Walmart. After over one hundred reports of overheating resulting in some amount of property damage, Double Insight moved to declare a voluntary recall. Consumers are advised to stop using their cookers and contact Double Insight for a working replacement as soon as possible. This recall effects approximately 104,000 units sold to consumers. The Instant Pot Smart-60
The Instant Pot is the appliance that put Double Insight on the map and has been a popularly sold kitchen gadget, particularly as a featured product on Amazon’s Prime Day in 2016. In 2015 Double Insight recalled the Instant Pot Smart-60 pressure cooker due to a risk of electric shock resulting from a defective thermal unit in the base causing the leakage of electric current. Customers were instructed to immediately desist in the usage of the Instant Pot and request a replacement base and control panel for their cookers if the serial number fell between 1410 and 1503.
