It’s almost time for one of Atlanta’s most popular spring traditions that began more than 80 years ago. The annual Dogwood Festival is coming on April 12 to 14, 2019 in Piedmont Park. Here are some of the highlights, along with practical advice in case it’s your first time attending.
What’s on the schedule?
There’s fun for all ages. That includes live entertainment, food trucks, high school art exhibitions and a nationally renowned juried artist market. There’s also a wide variety of midway rides plus a kids village with huge inflatables, arts and crafts, face painting, and a 24-foot rock-climbing wall. The Disc Dog Competition is one of the favorite attractions, and these are serious canine athletes. It’s grown into a 2 day event, and it’s a qualifier for the World Finals of the US Disc Dog Nationals.
How can I get there?
There is parking available but it can get pretty expensive. You may want to walk if you live close by or take MARTA trains or buses.
What’s the best time to attend?
Friday is ideal if you want to beat the crowds and save money. On Family Friday only, you can buy a wristband for less than $20 giving you all day unlimited access to rides and more.
What should I wear?
It’s outdoors in the spring so watch the weather report. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
Are there any dogwoods?
Yes, you’ll be able to buy dogwood trees that you can take home and plant
